◆ Clinic marketing for cosmetic, aesthetic, skin and beauty clinics, Australia and New Zealand

Clinic marketing that pays: more of the right clients, not just more clients

You can absolutely get more clients. But if the price is wrong, the treatment barely makes a margin and they never rebook, more clients just means more work for the same money. I work with clinic owners across Australia and New Zealand on the two things that make marketing pay: knowing exactly who your clinic is for, and making sure every new client is worth having.

Two things I believe about clinic marketing

More leads is not the same as more profit

Every agency, platform and course will sell you more leads. Very few will ask what a lead is worth to you once it walks through the door. I start there, because that is where the profit is decided.

1. The numbers come first
Before a dollar goes into ads, we check that your pricing is right and that you are promoting the treatments with the highest margin, not just the most popular ones. A full diary of low margin treatments at last year's prices is a busy way to go broke. Fix the price and the mix, and the same marketing brings in profit instead of volume.
2. Marketing starts with positioning, not ads
The most important marketing decision you will make is who you are for. If you are talking to everyone and anyone, no amount of social media, ads or boosted posts will fix it. Get clear on your niche, your ideal client and what they need to hear, and the marketing gets simpler, cheaper and far more effective.
More clients, or better clients?

What a high value client actually looks like

When clinic owners tell me they need more clients, what they usually need is better ones. A high value client chooses the treatments that make you money, comes back, says yes to the next step in their plan and brings a friend. Four numbers tell you whether you are attracting them.

Rebooking rate. How many clients leave with their next appointment already booked. This one number decides whether your marketing ever pays for itself.
Average spend per visit. Treatment plans, the right upsell and cross sell, and retail that fits the result they want. Same client, same hour, more profit.
Visits per year and lifetime value. How often they come and how long they stay. A client who visits six times a year for three years is worth more than twenty intro offers.

Gross margin per treatment ties it together. Promote what pays, not what is popular.

The three Ms of marketing

Market, message, medium. In that order.

Most clinics start with the medium: which platform, which ad, which agency. That is the last decision, not the first. The order that works is market, then message, then medium.

1. Market: don't be the GP, be the cardiologist

A GP sees everyone and competes with every other GP on the street. A cardiologist sees one kind of patient, gets referred, has a waiting list and is never asked for a discount. Your clinic works the same way. The clinic that is for everyone competes on price. The clinic that is clearly for one type of client and one kind of result can charge properly, gets talked about and gets chosen.

Being a specialist does not mean turning clients away at the door. It means deciding who the clinic is built for, so your treatments, your prices, your website and your posts all speak to that person. Everyone else is still welcome. They just are not who you are aiming at.

The tool for this is your ideal client persona. Not a vague "women 30 to 55 who care about their skin". One specific person. Here is what we work out together, in plain language:

  • Who they are. Age, stage of life, what their week looks like, what they already spend on themselves and where.
  • Their pains. The thing that bothers them enough to book. Not the clinical diagnosis, the way they describe it to a friend.
  • Their desires. What they actually want to feel and see afterwards, and what it would mean for them. Confidence at a wedding is a desire. Collagen stimulation is not.
  • Their symptoms. What they notice in the mirror, in photos, in how their skin feels. These are the words they type into Google at 10pm.
  • What they are avoiding. Being upsold, looking overdone, wasting money on a treatment that did nothing, feeling judged. Say it before they think it and you have their trust.

When you can describe this person better than they can describe themselves, every piece of marketing gets easier. You stop guessing what to post. You stop discounting to get attention. And the right clients start to recognise themselves in your clinic.

2. Message: say the thing they are already thinking

Once you know the market, the message writes itself. Your website, your Google profile, your captions and your consultations all speak to that one person, in their words, about their pains, their desires and what they are trying to avoid. It stops sounding like every other clinic and starts sounding like you understand them. How we build and test that message is part of the coaching work, because it has to come from your clinic, not a template.

3. Medium: now, and only now, choose the channel

Instagram, Google, referrals, partnerships, events, paid ads. They all work and they all fail, depending on whether the first two steps are done. With a clear market and a sharp message, you choose the one or two channels where your ideal client already spends time, and you give them a reason to act. Which channel, how much to spend and how to read the results is a conversation we have on your numbers, not on a trend.

Who this is for

Cosmetic clinic marketing, skin clinic marketing, beauty salon marketing. Same order, different detail.

Aesthetic and cosmetic clinics
Injectables, laser, skin and med spa clinics usually have the margin to grow fast and the competition to make it hard. Positioning decides whether you are compared on price per unit or chosen for your results. Aesthetic clinic business coaching covers the numbers behind it.
Skin and beauty clinics and salons
Beauty salon marketing is where I see the most discounting and the least rebooking. The fix is rarely more posts. It is a clear ideal client, treatment plans that are worth rebooking and a price that reflects the result. See business coaching for skin and beauty clinics.
Wellness, spa and allied health
Wellness clinics and allied health practices tend to be referred rather than searched for, which makes positioning even more important. People refer a specialist. See wellness clinic coaching and allied health business coaching.
Thinking about an agency?

Fix the business first. Then an agency can help.

I am not against clinic marketing agencies. A good one is a strong partner. But an agency amplifies whatever you hand it. Hand it vague positioning, prices that have not moved in two years and a clinic that does not rebook, and it will bring you more of that problem, faster, at a monthly fee. Hand it a clear ideal client, a sharp message, healthy margins and a rebooking habit, and the same agency looks brilliant.

That is the step before. We get the market, the message, the pricing and the client value right, so when you do choose a medium, or a partner to run it, every dollar comes back with friends. If you are already paying an agency and wondering why the profit has not followed, start with how much a clinic should spend on marketing.

Common questions

Clinic marketing and getting more clients, answered

How do I get more clients for my clinic?

Start with who you want more of, not how many. Decide which client your clinic is built for, which treatments make you the most profit, and what that client needs to hear to choose you. Then fix rebooking and pricing so each new client is worth more. Only after that do more ads, more posts or an agency make sense, because now every new client pays you back.

Do you run my ads or my social media?

No. I am a business coach, not an agency. I work with you on the decisions that make marketing pay: your positioning, your ideal client persona, your message, your pricing and which treatments to promote. If you then want an agency or a freelancer to run the ads, you can brief them properly and judge their results against your numbers.

Why is more leads not the same as more profit?

Because a lead only becomes profit if the price is right, the treatment has a healthy margin and the client comes back. A clinic that books 40 new intro facials at a discount and rebooks six of them has paid for 40 clients and kept six. Fix the price, the margin and the rebooking first, and the same marketing spend brings in far more profit.

What is marketing positioning for a clinic?

Positioning is deciding exactly who you are for and what you are known for, so the right client recognises you instantly. A clinic that is for everyone competes on price with every other clinic in the suburb. A clinic that is clearly for one type of client and one kind of result can charge properly and gets referred. It is the first of the three Ms: market, then message, then medium.

Should I hire a clinic marketing agency?

An agency amplifies whatever you give it. If your positioning is vague, your prices are too low or new clients do not rebook, an agency will bring you more of the same problem, faster. Get those three right first. Then a good agency can be a strong partner, and you will know exactly what to ask of them and how to measure it.

Does this apply to beauty salons as well as clinics?

Yes. Beauty salon marketing, skin clinic marketing and cosmetic clinic marketing all come back to the same order of work: know your market, sharpen your message, then choose the medium. The treatments and the client change. The method does not.
